Tiger Basketball has added a freshman-sophomore game to tomorrow's lineup against the Fairfield Mules. This makes the night a triple header, giving fans three opportunities to cheer on the Tigers at home!
Dagan Stocks, a proud representative of Sullivan University's College of Hospitality - renowned for its cutting-edge culinary arts program, paid visits to Mrs. West's Culinary Arts II class and Mrs. Kerr's Culinary Arts I and Family & Career Relations classes . Stocks has been a professional chef all over the United States for the past 20+ years, from the mountains of Colorado to the beaches in Miami, and was excited to share his experiences with young culinarians. The FCS Department is grateful that the students had an opportunity to speak with Stocks!
Students in Mr. Powell and Mr. Dunn’s biology classes are working with termites to learn about the concepts of the scientific method as well as the behaviors of termite colonies and how they respond to different variables.

GRIT Award winners for 1/1-1/7 are: Girls Basketball- Kelysse Weiler, Cheerleading- Abigail McMullen, Boys Basketball- Casey Thomann, and Wrestling- Baxter Smith. The GRIT Award is awarded to an athlete that demonstrates hustle, teamwork, and dedication. This award isn't necessarily always the highest scorer or top performer, but one that shows drive and passion to make the team better!
Olney Athletics are in action this week! Monday evening, Lady Tiger Varsity Basketball will host Casey-Westfield at 6pm. Tiger Basketball will host the Fairfield Mules in historic Ron Herring Gymnasium on Tuesday evening with play at 6pm and 7:30pm. Thursday, Lady Tiger Basketball heads to Newton with play beginning at 6pm. The Lady Tigers will also go toe-to-toe against the Lady Eagles at the LIC Tourney on Saturday in Lawrenceville at 2:30pm. Tiger Basketball will head to Mt. Carmel to take on the Aces Friday evening at 6pm and 7:30pm. And Tiger Wrestling is on the road all week. Tuesday they hit the mats in Fairfield and on Wednesday in Red Hill against the Lawrenceville Indians. Tiger Wrestling will also head to the Marty Williams Invite in Mahomet Saturday with a start time of 9am. Find time to support these OTN athletes and cheer them on!
Richland County High School junior Selena Fuentes took her VFW Voice of Democracy Audio Essay to the VFW District 13 Banquet on Sunday, January 7. While she did not advance since only first place moves on, RCHS is proud of Selena and the work she has demonstrated representing OTN and Olney VFW & Auxiliary #4226.
Class of 2028 Freshman Orientation will be held Wednesday, January 10 in the RCPAC at RCHS. Current 8th graders within the RCCU #1 District are encouraged to attend with a parent or guardian. A come-and-go dinner and dessert will be available in Room 173 courtesy of the T&I and Ag Departments from 5:30-7:30pm. Please make note of the schedule listed below and try to come during your designated time.

The Tri-M National Honor Music Society’s "Tiger’s Got Talent" will be held Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at 6 P.M. in the RCPAC. Tickets are $4 per person. Admission for children 5 years of age and younger is free.
During Tiger Basketball's contest in Marshall on Friday, January 5, Marshall will be passing around a bucket to collect funds to help a local student who was recently diagnosed with cancer. If you should feel so inclined, please bring money to contribute. Let's show support and that One Tiger Nation cares!
The Lady Tiger F/S Basketball game at Mt. Carmel on Thursday, January 4 has been cancelled. Lady Tiger JV & Varsity will still play in Mt. Carmel that evening with game play beginning at 6pm.

RCHS Food Service is implementing changes beginning January 3, 2024. Students will now have options beyond the scheduled menu. Students must have money in their Skyward account for some of those purchases. Cash is allowed (bills smaller than a $20) but payment through Skyward is preferred. Please make note of the changes mentioned below and discuss this new routine with your student.
Olney Athletics are in full swing following winter break! Tuesday, January 2 fans can catch Tiger Basketball in Effingham with play beginning at 6pm and 7:30pm. On Wednesday, Tiger Wrestling is on the road to Charleston while Tiger F/S Basketball hits the hardwood in Effingham. Lady Tiger F/S Basketball is also on the road that evening with game play in Salem at 6pm. Thursday, Lady Tiger Basketball takes on the Lady Aces in Mt. Carmel with F/S play at 5pm and JV/V starting at 6pm. The Tiger F/S Basketball will host the Aces that evening as well at 6pm in Ron Herrin Gym. Tiger Wrestling heads to the Murdale Invite in Carbondale on Friday, hitting the mats beginning at 3pm and also on Saturday at 9am. Tiger Basketball is in Marshall Friday evening with JV play beginning at 6pm and varsity at 7:30pm. Lady Tiger Basketball is on the road to Salem on Saturday with games beginning at 1pm. And Tiger Cheerleading is off to the ICCA Championship in Springfield (time TBA).
Tiger Basketball players Ian Winkler and Rex Hallam were selected to the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic all-tournament team following stellar performances during the tournament. Senior Ian Winkler was also named MVP. No doubt his game winning free throw in the semifinal round aided in his selection. Congratulations Ian and Rex – way to represent OTN!
Lady Tiger Basketball and Tiger Basketball continue play during the winter break. December 27 - 29 OTN fans can catch Lady Tiger Basketball at the Benton Christmas Classic. Additionally, Tiger Basketball will be in Pinckneyville for the Duster Thomas Classic. Cheer on OTN this holiday season!

It's a yearly tradition the day before break to see SRO Ameter spreading cheer through the halls on his bicycle!
Mrs. Pampe's physics class recently completed their Rube-Goldberg Project. Students were in teams, built contraptions with a total of 12 simple machines (two each of the six simple machines, though more were allowed), with the end goal of a golf ball making it into a box. The students' projects were then displayed for members of staff and faculty from the high school and district office. The students did a great job and it was interesting to see the builds they designed!
Mrs. Ginder's seniors had their Great Gatsby party to wrap up the semester. Students read the classic novel for their comp and lit class. Like Mrs. Ginder says, "A Jay Gatsby party on a Nick Caraway budget." And remember to "Drop it like F. Scott"!
