Rylan graduated high school from East Richland in 2004, then attended Olney Central College where he graduated with an Associates Degree in 2005. From there, he transferred to Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Education in 2007. In 2012, Rylan received his Masters in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University. 

Rylan started his teaching career in the West Richland School District as an Ag Teacher and FFA Adviser of the West Richland FFA Chapter from 2007 to 2011. He then accepted a position to be the Agriculture Teacher and FFA Adviser of the Edwards County FFA Chapter in Albion and taught there from 2011 to 2014. In 2014, Rylan accepted an Agriculture teaching position at his home high school where he was one of three FFA Advisers. In 2022, Rylan accepted the position to be the Assistant Principal of Richland County High School.

Rylan is married to Amy Rusk, a teacher at RCHS since 2011. They have two children:  Braeda (born in 2011) and Madden (born in 2014). 

Rylan is proud to be an Olney Tiger and looks forward to working with the youth of Richland County as they venture through high school and experience the many opportunities Richland County has to offer.
