Schools were divided into 3 categories based on size. Richland County automatically advanced to the Sectional competition at EIU in March.  However, the following students took top honors placing over all three divisions. Biology: Mai Buachaiyo and Jorri VanDyke tied for 1st place Chemistry: Darby Bissey - 4th place English:  Claire Vaal - 1st; Tyler Smashey - 2nd; Colleen Steber & Emeline Odgers - tied for 3rd Math: Tyler Smashey - 1st; Claire Vaal & Kyle Rennier - tied for 2nd; Mai Buachaiyo - 3rd Physics: Brett Kocher - 1st; Emery Speith - 2nd; Colby Redman - 3rd Our Tiger BASKETBALL squad was in action over the weekend. On Friday, our Tigers fell to Lawrenceville 57 to 46. Saturday, the Tigers had a nice bounce back as they defeated Harrisburg 58 to 30.  Pats on the back go out to our Tiger WRESTLING squad as they competed in regional action in Lawrenceville Saturday. Chase Ackman had 2 wins and placed 4th, Tuff Troyer had 2 wins with 1 pin, Coop Fehrenbacher had 2 wins with 2 pins and finished 4th, Brandon Wenger had 2 wins with 2 pins, Logan McDonald had 2 wins with 1 pin and finished 4th, Evan Gilreath had 2 wins, both pins, Zander Schrader and Jashaun McKinley both had 1 win.  Tiger roars go out to our SCHOLAR BOWL team as they placed 3rd overall in the LIC tournament over the last weekend and finished 4th overall in the conference. Tiger pats on the back go out to Vieve Carey as she was the 8th overall highest scorer and made the LIC all tournament team. Top finishers for the Tigers include John Slater with 60 points, Tyler Smashey and Sean Joyce with 50 points.   Tiger roars go out to our Lady Tiger BASKETBALL squads and they put a double dip on Charleston last night. The Varsity crew defeated Charleston 66 to 18. Top Tiger scorers include Grayce Burgener and Krystin Weiler with 14 points each. Younger sister Kelysse chipped in 11 points.
The RCHS Stripe of the Month for January was Positive Attitude. The students at RCHS will display a POSITIVE ATTITUDE in and out of the classroom, and on and off the field, court, pitch, diamond, etc. A shout out to First National Bank for sponsoring our STRIPES shirts. Due to pending weather we have some changes for tomorrow night's LIC tournament (Tuesday, January 24th). Games have been moved up 1 hour and flip-flopped. Therefore, Casey-Westfield/Newton will start at 5pm and Olney/Lawrenceville will begin at 6:30.

Levi Ochs, Brandon Wenger, Zander Schrader, Jashaun McKinley, and E-Van Gilreath all had one win.  Tiger roars go out to our scholar bowl team. Our varsity squad defeated Oblong and Mt. Carmel last night. Our JV squad handed Casey Westfield a loss last night as well. Top scorers for the Tigers consist of Addison Ridgely with 90 points, Genevieve Carey with 70 points, Tyler Smashey and John Slater had 50 points, and Brayden Beard and Briar Fore had 30 points.  Congratulations to the following FBLA members for their accomplishments at the FBLA Eastern Area Conference this week: Brayden Beard - 1st place in Sports and Entertainment Management and 3rd place in Introduction to Financial Math. Jozalyn Houser - 2nd place in Accounting I and 3rd place in Health Care Admin. Makayla Monical - 4th place in Business Law.  Taylor Runyon - 1st place in Business Mgmt. Tiger pats on the back  go out to Callista Ridgely. This past Saturday, District 13 the VFW Voice of Democracy Banquet was held in Centralia. Callista placed 2nd overall. Congratulations Callista!! Our Tiger wrestling squad competed at the Murdale tournament over the weekend. Pats on the back go out to Carson Bissey as he won all 5 of his matches. Levi Ochs, Logan McDonald, Zander Schrader, Jashun McKinley, and Evan Gilreath finished with 3 wins. Overall, Carson Bissey finished in 1st place, Tuff Troyer finished in 8th place, and Levi Ochs came in 10th. Our varsity squad defeated Pal-Hut and Newton but lost a close one to Robinson last night. Freshman Orientation will be tonight, Wednesday, January 11, 2023. RCHS Administration and Student Services will host three informational sessions in the Richland County Performing Arts Center (RCPAC). The sessions will take place at the following times: 5:30 - 6:00 (Students with last names A-I) 6:00 - 6:30 (Students with last names J-R) 6:30 - 7:00 (Students with last names S-Z) All incoming freshmen will receive a folder of information regarding registration for the 2023-24 school year. Our Tigers won the Duster Thomas Classic in Pinckneyville. Victories include: Woodlawn by a score of 77 - 27, Jerseyville by a score of 65 - 35, Pinckneyville by a score of 60 - 45, and Benton by a score of 63 - 43. Congratulations to Reximus Hallum and Ian Winkler as they were named to the all-tournament team. Tiger roars go out to Ian as he was named MVP of the whole kit and kaboodle. Our Tiger squads will be in action tonight, right here in beautiful, historic Ron Herrin Gym. The JV game will tip at 6:00 PM. The theme tonight is jersey night. Our Lady Tiger Basketball squad battled in the Mattoon Holiday Tournament over break. Our Lady Tigers finished in 6th place. They beat Sullivan by a score of 74 - 55 and defeated Altamont 66 - 43. Tiger pats on the back go out to Grayce Burgener for being named to the all-tournament team.

SRO Ameter is overjoyed by the multitude of donations to the 3rd annual SRO Coat & Hoodie Collection Drive. The drive was held November 7th thru December 12th. Pictured are just some of the donations from the American Legion Riders Post #30, John Joyce's family, and the RCHS Holiday Week of Giving student donations. Over 500 items have been collected.
